Industrial Development

Under the Industrial Development Program the department’s focus is on supporting existing manufacturing industries, promoting potential manufacturing sectors and initiating policies that will attract Foreign Direct Investment as well as promote domestic investment in the manufacturing sector.

 

1.   Promotion of key manufacturing sectors

The department identifies key manufacturing sectors that have the potential to contribute significantly to the country’s economy and need to be promoted. Currently the department is promoting the Sugar Industry, Agro-processing Industry, Construction Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry, Cotton Industry, Forest Industry and Leather Industry. In all these sectors, the emphasis is on value addition along the value chain.

Malawi Mangoes

 

MM operations (Malawi Mangoes) is an agro processing company that is producing pulp or puree for regional and international export markets. It was founded in 2009 by two English men Craig Hardie and Jonathan Jacobs, and it is one of the success stories of investment in Malawi.
