Mr. Cliff Kenneth Chiunda, Principal Secretary for Industry and Trade

Mr. Cliff Kenneth Chiunda is currently serving as the Secretary for Industry and Trade in the Ministry of Industry and Trade.  He also served as a Principal Secretary in the Performance Enforcement Department in Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), which is a organisational performance enforcement department that promotes efficient delivery of services in the public service.  Mr Chiunda has served government as an economist since 1988.  The background of his experience is based on the education he acquired both in Malawi and outside the country including the work that he has done in the ministries of Economic Planning and Development, Finance, Nutrition and HIV/AIDS, Justice and OPC.  He has also interacted with a lot of cooperating and development partners, NGOs and many civil society organisations in developmental work. 

Mr. Chiunda did his Bachelor’s Degree at Chancellor College, in Malawi and majored in Economics and went on to pursue Master’s Degree in Economic Planning and Development Policy with a credit at University of Wales Swansea in the UK.   He has worked for a long time in the areas of development planning; poverty analysis and impact assessments, programme and project management; public, private partnerships (PPPs); budget planning and execution; expenditure monitoring and public financial management and operations and organisational performance assessments in the public service.
